Chapter 14: Gravitational Microlensing

The bright yellow star in the middle/top is a background light source. A star and its orbiting planet move across near the bottom of the field of view, causing light rays from the distant source to bend. The light-focusing of the planet contributes to the light curve shown at bottom-right. Note that the observer (Earth) is located in the bottom-middle of the field of view. It is there that the gravitationally focused light is observed, as displayed in the light curve.
